The Cast of Harry Potter: Then and Now

Feeling old? No? Well, consider this: the first of the 8 epic Harry Potter movies came out almost 20 years ago. Virtually all of the cast are now in their 30s. Feeling old now? Then our job is done. But wait! Our job is most definitely not done yet. What are the actors from Harry Potter up to these days? That’s the question that’s been on your mind for a while, and we’re here to give you all the answers.

1. Daniel Radcliffe as Harry Potter

When the big announcement was made that JK Rowling’s Harry Potter novels were being turned into movies, it was a pretty big mother flippin’ deal. In fact, around 17,000 boys auditioned for the titular character and ultimately Daniel Radcliffe was chosen. He could have easily spent the rest of his life in complete financial security had he decided to never act again. But he wanted to build a much bigger legacy, and he certainly hasn’t disappointed. Since wrapping up the Harry Potter films in 2010, Radcliffe has starred in a variety of different movie genres. He’s been in dark comedies, rom-coms, and even horror movies. He even played a dead guy in Swiss Army Man, never uttering a single word throughout the movie being that he was a corpse and all. But beyond that, he’s starred in several TV shows and theatrical performances as well.

2. Rupert Grint as Ron Weasley

We all know Ron Weasley as Harry’s best pal. Much like Radcliffe, this was Rupert Grint’s first credited movie role. After the Potter movies, he continued to act in a few movies, although he hasn’t been back on the silver screen since the 2015 French comedy Moonwalkers. But don’t feel bad for Mr. Grint. You can catch him on the Netflix original series “Sick Note” as well as Apple TV plus’ “Servant.” He’s also performed on Broadway alongside Matthew Broderick and Nathan Lane in “It’s Only a Play.” Not too shabby!

And he has just become a father!

3. Emma Watson as Hermione Granger

Emma Watson played Hermione Granger, the most talented witch at Hogwarts. Much like the character herself, Watson is one smart cat. In fact, she even attended Brown University, receiving her Ivy League degree in 2014. After Potter, she had roles in several popular movies including My Week With Marilyn (2011), The Perks of Being a Wallflower (2012), and The Bling Ring (2013). She also played Belle in Disney’s live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast. Her most recent film credit was for Little Women (2019).

4. Tom Felton as Draco Malfoy

Tom Felton played the Hogwarts bully who was jealous of Potter’s success. But is the real-life actor also jealous? Of course not! He continues to find regular roles in Hollywood, mostly in low-budget dramas. He’s also appeared in several series, including “Murder in the First” on TNT, “The Flash” on CW, and the YouTube original series “Origin.” His most recent film is A Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting which we assume will come in quite useful if you happen to be a babysitter who is looking to hunt monsters on the side.

5. Matthew Lewis as Neville Longbottom

As Neville Longbottom, the 12-year-old version of Matthew Lewis had a round face and buck teeth. But once he grew up, he transformed into a ladykiller. He even posed in his underwear for an online publication in 2015. Since finishing the Potter movies, he’s acted in a few comedies here and there. He’s also appeared on several British TV series on BBC and ITV.

6. Robert Pattinson as Cedric Diggory

Robert Patterson made his first appearance in the Potter series in the 4th movie, The Goblet of Fire, as one of Hogwarts’ Triwizard champions. Afterwards, he starred in a few vampire/wolf movies that all the teenage girls used to like and blah blah blah.

7. Evanna Lynch as Luna Lovegood

Unlike the other aforementioned actors, Evanna Lynch’s eccentric Luna Lovegood didn’t make her debut until the 5th movie, Order of the Phoenix, which also happened to be Lynch’s first credited role in a film. Today she’s an activist who supports such cases as PETA and Save the Asian Elephants. She also hosts the podcast ChickPeepswhich centers around vegan-related topics.

Do you remember Harry Potter’s spoiled cousin Dudley Dursley? I bet you do! Well, Melling had lost much weight since his last appearance in Harry Potter and got one of the main roles in Netflix’s latest hit “TheQueen’s Gambit.”How cool is that?
